What you should be working on  Date  Due Check when done

1.

Make sure you understand what you need to do for the science fair project. Ask questions if you're not certain about any part of the assignment. Your teacher will give you guidelines for your project topic. Within the topic area think about what is of interest to you. What questions do you have? What are you curious about?

2.

Working with your team and with your project idea in mind, develop the question or problem that will be the heart of your project. Write a proposal which includes the question/problem and purpose of your project and submit it to your teacher for approval.

3.

After you get your teacher's approval, plan and outline the process and procedures, gather the necessary equipment, and start your project.

During the course of the project, you may want to visually record your progress using digital cameras or video.

Software, such as Inspiration 8 can be very helpful in organizing your work.

4.

Seek advice and help from professionals to refine your project when necessary i.e. doctors, researchers, scientists, teachers, librarians, specialists, engineers, etc.

5.

Conduct your experiment and collect data.

Keep careful, written records of results in your science fair notebook (the log). record the day and time you make observations. Be as specific as you can be about the data you collect. As a guide, recall and repeat the specific steps you had to follow when conducting any Gizmos experiment.

6.

Form conclusions, record them in your log, and organize the results of your experiments in chart or graph form. This is a great opportunity to use graphing software, such as InspireData.

Include a bibliography of books, magazines, websites, or other references you used in your log.

7.

Once you have completed the experiment and follow-up, it is time to put your presentation together beginning with the tri-fold presentation board.

See these links for ideas and samples.

Be sure to include on your board all of the necessary categories of information.

8.
Spend time practicing and preparing to discuss your project with the judges and be able to answer any questions.
9.
On the day of the fair, add finishing touches, arrive early to set up your display, relax and enjoy your hard work.
